The August-September of  issue of MODERN ARABIAN HORSE highlighted on its cover the article: Top Dressage Producing Sires 1960-2010. HorseDollars was very happy to read that KHEMOSABI++++// our poster boy (that is him above) was ranked No. 1 as sire of 45 champions in Dressage.

Perhaps better still from a breeding standpoint, KHEMOSABI’s son, GS KHOCHISE+++// was ranked No.11 as the sire of 22 champions in Dressage.

The KHEMOSABI-sireline continued to contribute, as demonstrated by  the appearance on the leading sire list at No. 9 by KHEMOSABI’s grandson PERKEE RHOYAL GEM, sired by the KHEMOSABI son, RHO-KEEM+++. PERKEE RHOYAL GEM was credited with 24 champions in dressage.

It has been a very good summer indeed for KHEMOSABI++++//. In their July 2010 issue ARABIAN HORSE WORLD published a research article which proclaimed KHEMOSABI++++// the All Time Leading Sire of Working Western Horses.

The term “Working Western” includes Working Cowhorses, Reining Horses, Cutting Horses and Trail Horses.

So,  Khemo a leading sire of dressage horses and Working Western horses.  From this we may deduce that the Khemo-horses have strong loins and hips and tend to be good movers. This would be correct.  We might further deduce that the Khemo-horses tend to have tractable dispositions and want to please.  Right again.

But alas, KHEMOSABI++++// died in 2001.  It can be deduced that he is no longer available to sire foals.  but such a deduction would be WRONG!

Frozen semen of KHEMOSABI++++// exists and is available from your HorseDollars writer.  Call (818) 955-8585 for details.

This blog entry is not solely a sales advertisement for your writer’s Khemosicles, it is also intended to make two points:

1.  Frozen Semen changes the nature of the breeding business.

2.  Small breeders can succeed. My father bred Khemosabi.  He searched for a good mare, and bought one in Jurneeka, dam of Khemosabi.  Then he saw the young Amerigo, sire of Khemosabi, and based primary on phenotypic analysis, bred Jurneeka to Amerigo.  Both Jurneeka and Amerigo were National winners and each an excellent phentypic specimen of an Arabian horse.  At the time of this breeding, Jurneeka was the only mature mare that my father owned.  It is not being proffered that every single foal will be a KHEMOSABI.  But HorseDollars is saying that it can happen.  It did.

California Polytechnic University at San Luis Obispo has a sensible horse business educational program. Professor Pete Agalos heads a “learn by doing” approach.

Each spring and summer quarter, students start and train 2 to 4 year old horses.  They use well-bred Quarter Horses and Appaloosas.  Students are now organizing a public auction of these quality performance horses, suitable for reining, cutting, trail and ranch work.

The sale is August 29, 2010 at 2:30 at the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Horse Unit.  But come early, the Barbeque Lunch starts at noon.  Call Pete Agalos (805) 756-7414 for information.

HorseDollars applauds Prof. Agalos and the Cal Poly SLO student horsemen and horsewomen.  The program sounds like a fine one.  HorseDollars bets there will be some excellent buys made on 8/29 in SLO.
